JAMES E. TAYLOR

SOUTH BEND - James Edward Taylor, affectionately known as "Tate," loving father, brother and grandfather, 39, of Kenwood Avenue, South Bend, Indiana, departed this life on Tuesday, March 6, 2007, in Memorial Hospital of South Bend. He was born on December 29, 1967, in South Bend, the son of Anna Marie Taylor and Charles Douglas Sr.

He attended LaSalle High School where he participated in several sports such as football, track and wrestling. He played sports with great enthusiasm and never lost his competitive spirit. He also lived his life that way. He graduated from LaSalle in 1986. After graduation, he moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, to attend Lincoln Tech to pursue a career as a diesel mechanic. After attending Lincoln Tech, he then moved to San Antonio, Texas, where he met and later married Charisse Taylor. They were united in holy matrimony in March 1993. He later returned home to South Bend with his wife and their daughter where they resided until their divorce. He remained in the South Bend area working as a cook for local restaurants until his death.

He leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Deion'tre Taylor of South Bend and Bay Sean Taylor of Minnesota; a stepdaughter, Charita McSwain of Mishawaka; four sisters, Patricia (Clyde) Foster, Lisa Murray, Gail Douglas and Kim Scott, all of South Bend; three brothers, Anthony Murray, Charles Douglas Jr. and Jewell Scott, all of South Bend; a maternal grandmother, Lillie B. Taylor; his father, Charles (Gloria) Douglas Sr. of Eau Claire, Michigan; a paternal grandmother, Inez Douglas of South Bend; two grandchildren of Mishawaka; a special nephew, Michael Barr of South Bend; two aunts, Helen Coley and Hazel Taylor; four uncles, Walter (Lorna) Taylor, Charles Binion, all of South Bend, Alvin Taylor and Thomas Taylor, both of San Antonio, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and a special friend, Leah Staggers.

His mother, Anna Marie Taylor, his grandfather, James K. Taylor Sr., his great-grandmother, Arlena Ross, a great-aunt, Rosie Taylor, and an uncle, James K. Taylor Jr., all preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, March 12, 2007, in New Harvest Church, with burial following at Highland Cemetery. Viewing will take place from noon to 1 p.m. in the church.
