Valarie Jean Cummings

SOUTH BEND - Valarie Jean Cummings, a resident of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away at the age of 54 on Saturday, November 5, 2011, at North Capitol Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Indianapolis. Valarie was born in Chicago, Illinois, on October 12, 1957, to the union of Willis and Elaine Louise (Cornell) Cummings. In 1975 she graduated from LaSalle High School.

Valarie was employed as a CNA by Green Springs Nursing Home. She served as Junior Church Mother at Faith Temple COGIC and was also Pantry Queen where she was a member for the past 20 years.

Family members who survive to mourn her loss include two daughters, Taquisha Clark (Leander Woodfolk) of Aurora, CO, LaVonda (Terrence) McKeever; and two sons, Darryl Crockett and Donald Eiland Jr., all of South Bend, IN; grandchildren, Derrick DePriest Jr., Adrian DePriest, Najya Clark, Paul Piszker, Adriana Piszker, Octavia Eiland, Terrque McKeever, Terrence McKeever Jr., Janey McKeever, Monique Walker and Toineesha Brantley; one sister, Vivienne (Ronald) Lax; brothers, Edward (Cleary J.) Cornell of Locust Grove, VA, Verne (Amy) Cummings of Indianapolis, IN, and Vaughn Cummings of Manassas, VA; nephews, Ronald Lax Jr., Aurora, CO, and Victor Cummings Jr. of South Bend; along with a host of other nieces and nephews; the best friend of the family, Catherine "Cookie" Davis; and a special friend, Everett Meritt, all of South Bend.

Valarie was preceded in death by her parents, Willis and Elaine Cummings; four brothers, Valton Cummings, Vincent Cummings, Victor Cummings and Vann Cummings; and her best friend, Rosie Seals.

Services for Valarie Cummings will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2011, at Alford's Mortuary, where arrangements have been entrusted.
