JOHN HOFFMAN

SOUTH BEND - John "J.T." Hoffman passed away after a short illness. J.T. lived and worked his entire life in the Michiana area.

He graduated from Holy Cross Grade School and LaSalle High School in 1981, then worked for his father's company, Jachel Incorporated, before joining the South Bend Police Department. J.T. was known for his wise-cracking humor and generosity. He would often take someone's vehicle, who was down on their luck, and fill the gas tank, then slip them a $20 bill. He often gave food to families that were suffering, and added a joke on top of it.

He is survived by his parents, John J. and Jacqueline Hoffman of South Bend; two brothers, Michael Hoffman of Granger, Andrew and his wife, Tracie Hoffman of Chicago, IL. He was the best uncle to his three nieces he adored, Hannah, Emily and Andrea.

Funeral services will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the McGann Hay Funeral Homes, Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23 (enter off Cherry Road) where friends may call Thursday from 3-5 & 6-8 p.m. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery.
