SOUTH BEND - Walter J. Krol, 60, passed away at 2:49 pm Wednesday, January 2, 2013, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. Walt was born August 26, 1952, in South Bend, to the late Harry J. and Lucille (Ciesiolka) Krol.

On November 29, 1975, at Bethany Lutheran Church, Walt was united in marriage to Donna Lester Krol. She survives along with his sons, Brian David and Jason Michael Krol, both of South Bend, and grandson, Michael David Krol. Walter also leaves behind his brothers, Victor (Lois) Krol, Anthony Krol and Arthur (Suzanne) Krol, all of South Bend; mother-in-law, Jean Lester Anderson; sister-in-law, Barb (Richard) Macias, all of South Bend; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Walt attended the former Central High School and was a member of the last Central Bears football team, 1969-1970, and he graduated from the former LaSalle High School in 1971. He possessed a strong work ethic, having worked as an automotive technician for over thirty years at Basney/Gurley Leep Ford. He was very dedicated and was always early to work and stayed until the job was finished. Walt was always willing to help family and friends any way he could. He took exceptional pride in maintaining his lawn and garage. For many years Walt and Donna enjoyed line dancing with their friends, both old and new. He had a passion for motorcycles, whether building his own or watching them being built on television. Walt was always supportive of Donna's work with individuals with disabilities. Most of all, he had a very strong love for his family.

Visitation for Walter will be held 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm Monday, January 7, 2013, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, January 8, 2013. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made in Walter's name to the South Bend Community School Corporation Special Education Department, 215 S. St. Joseph St., South Bend, Indiana 46601. Condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
