SOUTH BEND - Antonio "Tony" J. Lacopo, 54, of South Bend, a loving husband, father and son, passed away on Tuesday morning, June 15th, in his home surrounded by his family after a long illness. He was born on August 2, 1955, in South Bend, IN, to Carmela (Rulli) and Giuseppe Lacopo, and was a lifelong resident.

He attended Muessel Elementary School and graduated from LaSalle High School in 1974.

On August 26, 1978, Tony married Louise Schubert, who survives. He is also survived by his four children, Jennifer (Charles) Matchett, Antonio, Rosanne and Laura Lacopo, all of South Bend. He is also survived by his mother, Carmela Lacopo of South Bend; siblings, Maria (Rosario) Mittiga, Francesco (Ann) Lacopo, Rita (Louis) Kosowski and Angela Seaman, all of South Bend, and Bruno (Linda) Lacopo of Novato, CA, and Rosa (Jack) McGowan of Montgomery, TX.

His father, Giuseppe, preceded him in death in 1997.

His lifelong dream was to own and operate a service station, which he achieved after 28 years of hard work and renamed it "Tony's Mobil" in the year 2001. He quickly expanded the towing operations and later added on his dream mechanic shop of four service bays. Tony loved his family and his work, and all his customers dearly. He will be greatly missed by the many people he served.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 18th, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a parish Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 19th, in Holy Cross Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, you may donate to the Holy Cross Educational Fund used to fund scholarships for families in need.

Leigh Robison (1974)

it saddens me greatly that I am discovering this now and unable to pay my respects in person to the bellissimo familial Lacopo and Antonio whom I loved and appreciated piu molto
