Robert Neil Margraf

Robert N. Margraf, 75, of Indianapolis, died November 17, 2013. Robert was born March 24, 1938 in Michigan City, IN to Philbert S. and Mary G. (Morgan) Margraf and was raised in Corning, Ohio. He graduated from St. Charles Borromeo in Columbus, Ohio, and received a master's degree from the University of Notre Dame. Robert taught for five years in the Maple Heights, Ohio school system, where he was head of the English department before moving to South Bend to teach literature at LaSalle High School for a year. He joined the staff of the Indiana State Teachers Association as a regional director of field services in the Mishawaka office and was appointed to the state staff two years later. Better educated kids with quality teachers were his goals. He retired as chief lobbyist in November of 1997 and received a Sagamore of the Wabash award from Governor Frank O'Bannon.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie Jean "Marge" (Gildner) Margraf and sister Mrs. Delio (Patricia) Mordenti . Calling will be Friday, November 22, 2013 at St. Monica Catholic Church 6131 N. Michigan Road Indianapolis, In 46228, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and followed by a funeral mass at 10 a.m..

Robert is survived by his children Paul S. (Sodara) Margraf, David C. (Dawona) Margraf, Julie L. (John) Edmond, Mark A. Margraf and his grandchildren Jordan, Morgan, Madison, Macy and Mallory. He is also survived by his siblings Mrs. Bernard (Maureen) Kocks, Mrs. Laverne (Fran) Kohlbrecher, Jerome Margraf and Edward Margraf. Burial will be in Washington Park North Cemetery.
