DENNIS J. SCOTT

SOUTH BEND - Mr. Dennis Jay Scott Sr., 52, who resided on North Brookfield Street, South Bend, Indiana, passed away at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, February 7, 2010, in Sanctuary of St. Joseph after a courageous, nine- and-one-half-year battle with cancer. Dennis was born to the union of Willis and Bessie (Hicks) Scott on April 28, 1957, in South Bend.

He attended both Central High School and LaSalle High School.

On December 7, 1990, in South Bend, Dennis and Ora "Jeannie" Martin were united in marriage. Dennis was a great Dad who loved to be near children. He was very fond of sports, especially basketball. He also was a former member of St. Augustine's Catholic Church.

Beloved family members who survive to mourn his loss include his wife, Ora "Jeannie" Scott; daughters, Charla Scott of Ft. Wayne, IN, Dennisha Scott, Denora Scott, and granddaughter, Adryana Curry, who was raised as a daughter; a son, Dennis Scott Jr., and Adryan Curry, grandson raised as a son, all of South Bend, IN; grandchildren, Miquan Cosey of South Bend, Anthony Fair, Issac Fair and Tajaa Fair, all of Ft. Wayne, IN; sisters, Nancy Scott of South Bend, Bonnie Scott-Turner of Omaha, Nebraska, and Theresa Scott of Atlanta, Georgia; brothers, Larry Scott of Washington, D.C., Gary Scott of Baltimore, Maryland, Dale Scott of Lafayette, Arkansas, and Peter (Gina) Scott of Inglewood, California; stepmother, Evette Trice; father-in-law, Columbus Evans Sr., and an aunt, Eula Johnson, all of South Bend; sisters-in-law, Ollie Martin, Liz Ann Miller and Mary Evans, all of South Bend, Sharon Evans of Miami, Florida, and Deniece McGhee of Southfield, Michigan; brothers-in-law, Anthony (Sinith) Evans, Columbus Evans Jr. and Alvin Evans, all of South Bend; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death along with his parents, Willis and Bessie Scott, were a stepdaughter, Alana Joy Gaines; a sister, Selena Scott-Lewis; and a brother-in-law, Felton McGhee.

Funeral services for Mr. Scott will be held at 5:30 p.m. Friday, February 12, 2010, at Alford's Mortuary where arrangements have been entrusted.
