ANTHONY V. SIMS

July 31, 1948 - March 30, 2008
SOUTH BEND - Anthony Vito Sims, 59, of South Bend, passed away following an extended illness at 3:47 a.m. Sunday, March 30, 2008, in Memorial Hospital of South Bend. Tony was born July 31, 1948, in South Bend, Indiana, to Mr. and Mrs. Leo Anthony and Pasqua (DiPinto) Sims.

Surviving are his mother, Pasqua Sims of South Bend; a daughter, Rachel (David) Meckley of Morenci, Michigan; his siblings, Leo (Angie) Sims of Henderson, NV, David V. (Jill) Sims of Midway, PA, Mary Ann (Greg) Montgomery of North Liberty, IN, Johanna (Michael) Rhymer of Kell, IL, Rosemary (Jerry) Hoffman of South Bend, IN, John (Mary) Sims of Granger, IN, and Teresa (Mark) Ferency of South Bend, IN. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Noah, Lidia and Daniel Meckley; 15 nieces and nephews, six grand-nieces and nephews.

Tony was preceded in death by his father, Leo, in 2002.

Funeral services will be conducted at noon Wednesday, April 2, 2008, in the Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, where friends may call two hours prior to the services. Interment will follow with military honors at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.

Tony was a graduate of LaSalle High School, class of 1967, where he played football and was the captain of the wrestling team. He then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam and earning six medals (National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one star, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Rifle Expert Badge, and the Good Conduct Medal) before his honorable discharge in 1970. Tony was employed in automobile sales, where he earned the "Salesman of the Month" award, and also was a representative for the mobile home sales industry for many years. In his spare time he enjoyed reading, travel, and genealogy research about his family.
