SOUTH BEND - Darrell Leroy Johnson, 48, passed away unexpectedly in Snellville, Georgia, January 5, 2013.

Darrell was born October 13, 1964, in Elkhart, Indiana, to Donnie Lopez Johnson and Margaret Kay Minor, who later joined in holy matrimony January of 1966. He was christened at St. James A.M.E. Church as an infant. Later relocating to South Bend, Indiana, Darrell accepted the Lord Jesus Christ and was baptized at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Willie V. Williams.

Darrell graduated from LaSalle High School in 1983, later entering into the military in 1984. He served in the Army and received an Honorable Discharge in 1990. In 1986 he united in holy matrimony with his high school sweetheart, Victoria Graham. Later in life and after a divorce, he united in marriage to Leisa Johnson. To that union a daughter was born. Darrell attended Bethel College where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He was affiliated with Prince Hall Masonry where he served as Worshipful Master of St. Peter's Lodge No. 31 Free & Accepted Masons (F&AM) and served as Most Wise and Perfect Master of Gethsemane Rose Croix Chapter No. 77 Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite (AASR).

He was employed at Honeywell International South Bend Division (Bendix) as an Engineer Technician, retiring after 20 years of service in 2006. In 1995 Darrell was called into the Ministry under the leadership of Pastor Stephen Reed. He later moved his membership to Greater First Church International under the leadership of Bishop Travis Grant, being ordained as an Elder. Relocating to Covington, Georgia, in 2007, he started a new career as a District Manager, until his death, for Waffle House in Atlanta, Georgia. One of his favorite hobbies was playing golf, and he loved spending time with family and friends.

Darrell leaves to cherish his memories spouse, Leisa Monai Johnson; daughters, Darlesia Lenai and Antoinette Elizabeth Johnson, and a grandson, Romell Lyn Johnson, all of Covington, GA; goddaughter, Moo-Moo, and godson, Julian Crawford of Chicago, IL; mother, Margaret Kay Johnson of South Bend; father, Donnie Lopez (Janice Kay) Johnson Sr. of South Bend; brothers, Garry Lamonte Johnson of Elkhart and Donnie Lopez (MeShondra) Johnson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL; sister, Teresa Jean Johnson of South Bend; stepbrother, Damon Howell of Indianapolis; mother-in-law, Elizabeth Hooks of Benton Harbor, MI; aunts, Frances (Charles) Patterson of Chicago, IL, Winona Johnson of Bristol, Eloise Johnson of Dayton, OH, Yolanda Kay Ivory of Bristol and Rose Marie Fayne of Elkhart; uncle, James Earl (Donna) Johnson of Elkhart, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ruben (Jean) Minor; paternal grandparents, Juanita Huff (Roosevelt) Weed and Lige (Anna) Johnson; father-in-law, Felton Hooks; stepbrothers, Ellis Howell Jr. and Jason Richard Howell; aunt, Mary Frances Carraby, and uncle, Eunice Earl Fayne.

A memorial service to celebrate Darrell's life will be held at the New Horizons Outreach Ministry located at 56165 Mayflower Road, South Bend, IN, on Saturday morning, January 19, 2013. Friends may call 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

The memorial service is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. Bishop Stephen Reed of Rhema Word International Outreach Ministries will officiate.
