Gregory S. Smith
July 1958 — March 2005
Gregory passed away at Hospice House in San Francisco after a long battle with cancer.
Greg was born in South St. Paul, MN, on July 11, 1958, to Charles “Lefty” and Mary “Mickey” Smith. He moved to the South Bend area with his family in 1968. Greg attended school at Stanley Clark, LaSalle High School and Holy Cross College. As a young adult he moved to Kodiak, Alaska. He also lived in Seward, AK, Seattle, WA, San Francisco and Napa Valley, CA. Greg was always willing to lend a helping hand to family and friends. He brightened the lives of everyone he came in contact with, especially those at the Hospice House. Our son and brother was an outstanding uncle and enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews.
An immense amount of joy and laughter was brought into the lives of those who knew him by his adventures and witty and humorous stories. Greg will be greatly missed by fam-ily and friends.
Survivors include his parents, seven siblings, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mickey and Lefty Smith of South Bend, Christine Haas of South Bend, Cindy Blase (John) of St. Louis, Mo., Michael Smith (Angie) of Libertyville, Ill., Cheryl Ake (Wincton) of Niles, Mich., Shelia Stansky (Bob) of Andover, MN, Tom Smith (Shelly) of South Bend, Mary Beth Romano (Paul) of Kalamazoo, MI. Nieces and nephews are TJ and Jenn Haas, Nick, Brenda and Clare Blase, Brlanna and Nicole Smith, Mallory and Hillary Ake, Ryan Stransky and Ellie North, Kelsey and Brody Smith, Christopher, Katie and Matthew Romano. He is also survived by an uncle, Rev. Michael R. McNally of San Bernardino, CA.
A private memorial service and Mass will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the O'Hana Heritage Foundation or to the American Cancer Society. Masses may be sent to Reverend Michael R. McNally at P.O. Box 3802, San Bernardino, CA 92413.
