STEVENSVILLE - William "Bill" Magley, 57, of Stevensville, Michigan passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at his favorite place in the world, Grand Mere State Park. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, November 20, 2014 at The Chapel, 4250 Washington Ave., St. Joseph, Michigan, with Mike Gathright officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 from 3:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph. Bill was born February 27, 1957 in South Bend, IN to William and Mary (Nagy) Magley.
He received a Bachelor of Arts in Education, Master's Degree in Educational Leadership and Professional Certification in Secondary Administration from Western Michigan University. He continued his education at Valparaiso University where he received an ETS National Licensure in Administration. He was a longtime teacher, school administrator, athletic director and coach at various area schools including: Berrien Springs, Cedar Lane, River Valley, New Prairie, Buchanan and Dream Academy in Benton Harbor. Additionally he was a Case Manager at Berrien County Juvenile Center. Bill also trained and coached for Lake Michigan College, Lakeshore High School, Lake Michigan Catholic High School and Palisades Nuclear Power Plant.
Currently he was the Assistant Principal at the Career Academy in South Bend, IN. During his time at Dream Academy Bill was acknowledged by First Lady Michelle Obama for his 100 Mile March initiative sparked by her Let's Move Campaign. He was a triathlete, enjoyed hiking, biking and running all while listening to his favorite music as loud as possible. Through these passions he founded and was the visionary of Nature's Fitness which he started in 2010. He trained at Grand Mere State Park, North Lake Park and on the beaches and woods of Lake Michigan. Bill was a deeply spiritual person and enjoyed the music and message at Storyline Church. Bill's mission in life was to mold and mentor youth and young adults-senior citizens encouraging them to reach their full potential in health and their own personal goals.
Bill is survived by his love, soul mate and best friend, Carole Meier; four children: William Ryan Magley of St. Joseph, Rachel Mary Magley of Seattle, WA, Jonathan Caleb Magley of St. Joseph and Lindsey Marie (Chad) Ballard of Portage, MI; his step-mother, Alberta Magley of Sun Lakes, AZ; three siblings: Patrick (Bobbie Jean) Magley of South Bend, IN, Susan Magley of San Francisco, CA and David (Evelyn) Magley of Brampton, Ontario; and extended family, friends and clients of Nature's Fitness. Bill was preceded in death by his parents.
