Matt Urbanski
April 4, 1972 ~ October 5, 2024 (age 52)
Matt Urbanski, 52, of Mishawaka, IN, passed away unexpectedly at 3:35 p.m. Saturday, October 5, 2024. He was born on April 4, 1972, to Thomas and Laurie Lyn (Volmer) Urbanski in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong area resident.
Matt graduated in 1990 from the former LaSalle High School in South Bend, IN. He was currently employed with Aldridge Insurance Agency in South Bend, IN, where he worked as an Insurance Agent for the last 17 years.
Matt is survived by his fiancé, Jennifer Lekarczyk of Mishawaka, IN; his daughter, Paige Urbanski of South Bend, IN; a step daughter, Madeline McCoy of Mishawaka, IN; parents, Thomas and Laurie Urbanski of Osceola, IN; a maternal grandmother “Nanny” Sue Witz of Mishawaka, IN; two brothers, John (Sarah) Urbanski of Franklin, TN; Joseph (Carrie) Urbanski of Angola, IN; and seven nieces & nephews, Chloe, Abby, Carmen, Nolan, Grace, Jack, and Ali.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Gabrielle Urbanski.
Matt was known by many names.....Dad, Uncle Matt, Urbs, DJ Urbal T (when he got into DJ mode), or Hew...Jen's favorite nickname for him. Matt loved his family and friends deeply. His favorite memories to share were the stories of his Sussex neighborhood days and the lifelong friendships he maintained from them. Matt retired from his softball days years ago, but he always missed it (even if he denied it lol)! Matt's lifelong passion was bowling. As a bowler for decades, Matt had many notable achievements, including the Urbanski Insurance Team setting a city record for Team Series at PNA with a 3728 score, and adding to his list of accomplishments most recently with an 817 series (even joking recently he got an 800 series every year since he turned 50).
Matt had a passion for the sport of bowling, and he brought this to coaching the last several years with Kevin Kubsch at LaVille high school where they built their bowling program from a few members to one of the notable teams in the state. Matt was very proud of his LaVille bowling teams and all they have accomplished. Matt's love for bowling began at a young age through his friendship with the Brame family. Matt wanted the sport to continue to build and grow, and he was an integral part of fundraising for the Brame Memorial Youth Scholarship providing scholarships to young bowlers going on to college.
Matt was an active member of the BK Club in Mishawaka, IN where he enjoyed the game of rolle bolle, even traveling to tournaments to participate. Matt's membership at Bowlers Country Club in South Bend, IN was a very special place for him. It held many memories from his childhood, and he built many more by participating in golf leagues, outings, and casual Sunday rounds. Matt's love of golf took him to wonderful locations to play over the years, even getting Paige and eventually Jen interested in the game. Matt passed away playing the game he loved. He will be loved and missed forever. Just remember…as Urbs would say...Drive fast and take chances.
Visitation will be from 2-7 p.m. Friday, October 11, 2024 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
