Randall James Berta

Randall James Berta, born January 1, 1961, in South Bend, Indiana, passed away on December 12, 2024 at Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Randy is survived by his mother, Rita M. Berta (Garstecki), his devoted wife, Valorie, and his sister, Karen Greenwell. He also leaves behind his children: Erin (Carlos) Casadio and Jessica Ramenda, both of South Bend, Indiana; Jonathan (Agata) Berta of Shaw AFB, South Carolina; and David (Connie) Berta of South Bend, Indiana. He was a proud grandfather to ten grandchildren and uncle to two nieces. Randy was preceded in death by his father, James Alex Berta.
A 1979 graduate of LaSalle High School in South Bend, Randy had a passion for theater, participating in musical productions and working on lighting design. He was a Junior Fireman, a Boy Scout, and worked at South Bend Tribune during his youth. He spent many years working at AM General and later at IN/TEK IN/Kote, where he was a proud member of the Steelworkers Union for 25 years. Randy retired in 2022.
Randy and Valorie’s love story began as neighbors. Even after Valorie moved to Arkansas, they kept in touch through letters. When she returned to Indiana, they reunited and built a life together, marked by love, laughter, and family.
His career took him to Japan for a month, where he learned the technical aspects of steelwork, reflecting his dedication to his profession.
Raised in the Catholic Church, Randy had a strong and unwavering faith in God, which guided him throughout his life.
Randy’s warmth, kindness, and commitment to his family and faith will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Arrangements have been entrusted to www.boydandsonfuneralhome.com where condolences may be shared. A Memorial Service will take place at a later date.
