Willie Jay "Pookie" Taylor Sr.
November 21, 1956 ~ April 22, 2024 (age 67)
Mr. Willie Jay Taylor SR, 67 of south bend, IN passed away on April 22 nd , 2024. Unexpectedly. he was born to the union of Rayfield Taylor, and Willie May Taylor on November 21, 1956, in Purvis, Mississippi. The family later relocated to south bend, IN. Willie graduated in the LaSalle high school class of 1974. He went on to work for Drain Surgeon, INC and a mechanic for many years helping family members friends or anybody that needed a helping hand.
He married Ernestine Sutherland in the summer of 1984 and from the union came Three beautiful children: Willie Jay Taylor Jr, Cleora Taylor and Carl Taylor. Willie also had two beautiful daughters Stephanie (Shawn) Hosey and Angela Taylor. Our patriarch loved to spend time with his family and friends and most importantly his grandchildren. Willie better known as “pookie” was the center of attention anywhere he went. It was never a dull moment when “uncle pookie” was around. he loved to crack jokes and laugh all night. He loved to collect anything he though was an antique, form cars, to lamps to old lunchboxes. In his prime he was one of the best mechanics around. and would always take the time to help anybody, even if he didn’t know how to do it, he would find a way. One of his favorite saying’s ‘All my life I been po, but it really don’t matter no mo”
He leaves a legacy of memories and beloved family Children: Cleora Taylor, Willie Taylor Jr, Carl Taylor, Angela Taylor of Indianapolis, IN and Stephanie (Shawn) Hosey of Purvis, Mississippi. 19 Grandchildren: Jaquan Redmond, JaNaiya Redmond, Briona Mckinney, Brandon Mckinney, Destiny Taylor Darsuan Taylor , Jahiem Taylor, Jayceon Taylor, Jayveon Taylor, Journee Taylor Ajah Taylor, Zavion house, Ashelyn Taylor, Ariana Hill, Shaquille Bolar, Robert Pittman, Miyah Hosey, Kyla (TJ) Martin Londyn Taylor-Cameron. And 13 great-grandchildren. Loving siblings: Woodrow Taylor of Purvis, Mississippi, Bertha Wilder of South bend, IN, Eva Taylor/Dozier of Union City, Tennessee. And a host of nieces, nephews, cousin, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and his brother’s David lee Taylor, Charles Taylor. And sister’s Mary Ann Taylor, Betty Lee Taylor, Annie Joyce Mcnair.
