In Memory
Thomas Henry Verse
December 27, 1956 ~ September 1, 2024 (age 67)
Mr. Thomas Henry Verse, 67, passed away during an early rise on Sunday, September 1, 2024, at his home with the lovely, Linda Gordon by his side. He was born to the union of Louise (Jones) and Rufus Verse, Sr., on December 27, 1956, in South Bend, Indiana. He was his mother's firstborn and his dad's third. Thomas attended Harrison Elementary and Linden Elementary School, Central High, and graduated from LaSalle High School class of 1975, he studied welding at IVY Tech class of 1977, attend school for Tool & Die design, worked at Air Jamaica. And he also was a truck driver for Steel Warehouse for many years. And he was and still is the sole inspiration for Verse Transport LLC.
Thomas was attending Apostolic House of God, Pastors Pardeep and Tena Singh. Thomas confessed salvation anytime you prayed with him or talked about following Jesus. He was raised in a Christian home mostly inspired by his mother and supported by his father. His dad hosted many small blues-jazz band sessions for the neighborhood and some weekends and holidays that extended to the community right from the living room of their home. This is where the natural gift of music flowed into the hearts of their children's lives first which influenced friends and the surrounding community. In Thomas & his brother Zachary's young life, his dad Mr. Rufus Verse, secured a blues band copying all the legendary bluesman from the 50-70's. Music has been passed down to his children, Demetrius, Ideneicka and grandchildren. Thomas learned the bass guitar and drew to the piano which he learned to love the most, along with his vocals. He played music in the public arena downtown South Bend, and outings in various places in the Great Lakes region amongst some of the greatest musicians.
Thomas was no stranger to anyone and if you met him, he would make sure you would not forget him, his children, and his family. He was a people person. Thomas loved meeting people, meeting new people was fulfilling to him. Thomas would try hard to learn about the person who crossed his path and acknowledge their "Kin relatives" while inquiring enough to make them his own "Kin." In Thomas's love for people, he aimed to combat depression. Thomas loved hard and, in his attempt, to love, "he did not
take any wooden nickels."
Thomas struggled with COPD and CHF that challenged his ability to make visitations throughout South Bend and Notre Dame, Indiana as he did regularly before his illness. He became frustrated about being unable to extend his care to many friends. However, in his wise way, at the end Thomas began reaching out to several people to come and visit him at his place, unbeknownst to them, He was offering his farewell. Rest in peace our dear Thomas, nothing will change the love we have for you.
