Elizabeth M. Conner (Gluth) VIEW PROFILE

Elizabeth M. Conner Gluth

Mar. 22, 1947 - Jun. 21, 2024

Elizabeth was born on March 22, 1947 in Mexico City, Mexico. Elizabeth, also affectionately known as Liz, passed away on Friday, June 21, 2024 in Denver, Colorado, peacefully with her family by her side.

Liz was raised in Mexico City by her Cuban mother, Florentina, and her father, Isaac, an Oklahoma veteran of WWI who worked as a racehorse trainer. Soon after, Liz and her family moved to Havana, Cuba, where they remained until her father’s death. Liz and her mother fled revolutionary Cuba in 1963 and were welcomed in Miami and after a brief stay moved to Oklahoma, where her Father’s relatives generously helped them settle in and acclimate.

Liz graduated from Northwest Classen High School in Edmond, Oklahoma and earned her teaching certification from Oklahoma City University. Liz married Mark Gluth in Berlin, WI while completing work on her Ph.D., and later moved to South Bend, IN where their son, Juan-Carlos, was born.

South Bend is where Liz would call home. She was a dedicated educator and loved her students. Over a 30 year period, Liz taught Spanish at Dickinson Middle School, LaSalle High School, and Clay High School. She was also an adjunct professor at Indiana University South Bend, St. Mary’s College, and the University of Notre Dame. Liz served as the Director for La Casa de Amistad. She worked tirelessly in her community for those seeking a better life in the United States. All who knew and were touched by her understood her kindness and generosity, as well as her positive outlook and selfless support of her family, friends, and strangers in need.

Liz later relocated to Colorado and spent her last years to be near her son Juan-Carlos and his wife Andrea, and her three grandchildren, Emma, Olivia, and Alex. She leaves behind a vast legacy of love and care for family and community and will be dearly missed by those her spirit touched.

The Vigil Service will be conducted on Thursday, July 18th at 5:30 p.m. and the Funeral Mass Service will be conducted on Friday, July 19th at 10:30 a.m. Funeral services will be conducted at Spirit of Christ Catholic Church (Chapel), 7400 W. 80th Ave., Arvada, CO 80003.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be donated to La Casa de Amistad www.lacasadeamistad.org.
