Herschel M. Hawkins

Herschel M. Hawkins, 69, of Spencer, Ind., a former South Bend teacher. died Thursday morning, Jan 25, 1979, in St. Vincent's Hospital, Indianapolis, after an extended illness.

He was a math teacher in South Bend schools for 40 years, retiring in 1973. At the time, his retirement he had taught for 11 years at LaSalle High School. He moved to Spencer upon retiring. He was born on Doc. 22, 1909, in Owen County.

On 15, 1933, he married Ada Fern Farley, who survives along with two brothers, Ronald Hawkins of South Bend and Lloyd George Hawkins of Bloomington.

West and Parrish Funeral Home, Spencer, is handling arrangements Services and burial will be in Spencer. Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Cancer Society Hawkins was a graduate of Indiana University, Bloomington, and was a member of the First Christian ('hurch, South Bend.
