Charles J. Grantham

November 11, 1967 ~ April 11, 2025

Charles “Charlie” J. Grantham, 57, passed away at 2:03 p.m. on Friday, April 11, 2025, at Memorial Hospital. Born on November 11, 1967, in South Bend, Indiana, Charlie’s life was far more than its ending. His journey was one marked by creativity, deep emotion, and an enduring love for the rock and roll era that shaped his world.

Charlie was preceded in death by his father, James Pierce Grantham, Jr. He is survived by his mother, Cynthia (Frederick) Grantham; his children, Jade Servin and Jimi (Brock) Anastasio; his grandchildren, Sebastian and Demetri Servin; and his brother, Todd (Tricia) Grantham.

Charlie’s early years in South Bend were filled with the vibrant sounds of 1980s rock and roll—a genre that would become the lifelong soundtrack of his soul. His passion for music was more than a hobby; it was a way of life. His guitar was never far from reach—an extension of himself through which he poured his energy, spirit, and heart. For Charlie, performing wasn’t just about the music—it was about creating an experience, forging connections, and giving people memories to treasure.

In addition to music, Charlie shone on the baseball field as a standout left-handed pitcher during his school years. Later in life, he found passion through his work as a painter. Those who knew him remember a man who lived out loud and always tried to make people smile.

His grandsons say their favorite memories of “Grandpa Charlie” are of him making Donald Duck voices while they laughed together. “Grandpa Charlie was so silly,” they say—words that now hold even deeper meaning, wrapped in love and memory.

Charlie’s generosity extended beyond life, as he made the courageous and selfless decision to become an organ donor. In doing so, he gave the most precious gift of all: the gift of life. Because of this decision, others now have a second chance—new days, restored health, and renewed hope. Through his selflessness, he became a hero to people he may have never met—families who now get more days, more hugs, more memories. Charlie turned loss into light, and sorrow into hope.

A celebration of Charlie’s life will be held on Sunday, May 25, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Bowler’s Country Club, 55839 Pine Rd., South Bend, IN 46619. No other services will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Charlie’s memory by supporting the Crisis Services Unit of the St. Joseph County Police Department, where his daughter proudly advocates for those in need. Donations will help support individuals struggling with mental health, just as Charlie did, and will carry forward his legacy of love, understanding, and compassion.

In this, we want to remind you: help, healing, and hope are always possible. Call or text 988 to connect with the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

Arrangements are being handled by Palmer Funeral Home – River Park Chapel.
