Chisa Renea Johnson Taylor Obituary
Chisa Renea Johnson-Taylor was a compassionate beacon of love, loyalty, and strength, always spreading joy wherever she went. Her warmth and spirit touched many. Chisa was released from the pains of this earth and entered into eternal essence on March 21, 2025.
She was born in South Bend, Indiana to Melvin and Linda Johnson on September 19, 1979. Chisa attended LaSalle High School, a place where she made many lifelong friends. She then furthered her education at Ivy Tech Community College where she became a phlebotomist and then an LPN. Later in life Chisa became a journeyman, and joined the Carpentry Union, something that runs true in her bloodline. She enjoyed the time spent working at the Notre Dame Football Stadium along with sharpening her culinary skills at the Century Center working alongside her sisters. Currently, she was enrolled in school studying pre law where she was excelling and eager to edge out injustice.
Chisa joined Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church as a young girl, where she was baptized and became a member of Sunday School and the Church Drill Team. Chisa also sang in the Youth Choir and then later joined the Gospel Chorus.
Chisa was a jack of all trades. She enjoyed working on cars, breeding dogs, poetry, listening to and making music, but most of all cheering both of her sons on at their sporting events. She spent a lot of time with her family but let it be known her grandbabies were priority. Chisa was passionate about helping others and spreading love and laughs to anyone she came in contact with. She believed in fighting for what was right; She took her children along with her to protest during the local United We Stand Movement. Chisa was a person that loved nature and didn’t mind putting her feet in the grass and hands in the dirt.
Cherishing her memory are her loving mother, Linda Johnson; beloved children, India, Arabia, Syria, Torrence Jr., and Tamir; cherished grandchildren, Aria, Nariah, Jaila, Divine, and Cincere; devoted brothers, DaMon (Leah) and Melvin (Jenae); dear sisters, Ayana and Kristen; a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and children in love who had a special place in her heart. Each of them carries forward a piece of her humor, strength, independence, and a bit of her legendary stubbornness.
Chisa was preceded in death by her sister Kelly Claybrooke; her father, Melvin Johnson Sr. who undoubtedly greeted her with open arms; maternal grandparents, Dorothy Smith, Louis & Juanita Mitchell; paternal grandparents, Freeman Johnson & Emma Cranford; some very special uncles, Richard Johnson, David Johnson, Raymond Johnson, Freeman Johnson, Herbert Smith Sr., and Ivory Smith, and her aunt Sharon Mcleod.
Her absence leaves a void that cannot be filled, but the mark she left on this world is indelible. Though gone too soon, her legacy of love, wisdom, and unwavering faith will continue to inspire those who were blessed to know her.
Visitation for Chisa will be on Saturday, April 5, 2025, from 11:00am to 12:00pm with a Memorial Service to be held at 12:00pm at Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 101 M. Adams St. South Bend, IN 46628.
