JACQUELINE KEYES


South Bend - Jacqueline G. Keyes transitioned to eternal peace on Monday, May 24, 2021, with her loving and devoted husband by her side at home. Jackie was born to the union of Henry and Elizabeth Griffen, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where she was educated at Southern University Lab School and went on to attended Southern University, in Baton Rouge, and finished with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education.

Jackie married her college sweetheart, Willie, and they moved to South Bend, Indiana where she taught for 41 years. In that time Jackie also served on South Bend School's Curriculum Team, and was Teacher of the Year for Harrison School, and went on to finish in the top 15, for the Corporation. Jackie also served on the State of Indiana book adoption committee. Teaching was a true passion for her, and she loved working with all of her students and never gave up on them.

Jackie was a long time and dedicated member of Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church. She was a member of the Spiritual Voices, Gossip Chorus, and one of the founders of the Drill Team and director for many years; and also taught Sunday School classes. Jackie also was the director of the award-winning flag auxiliary with the LaSalle High School Band. One of Jackie's most beloved quotes in the Bible is Psalm 23.
Survivors includes her husband of 49 years, Willie Keyes; sons: Jamal Keyes (Tiffany), Indianapolis, Indiana, Ahmad Keyes (Michelle) Tampa Bay, Florida; grandchildren: Maximus Keyes, Mill'ion Keyes, McKenzy Keyes, Miles Keyes, Hailey Keyes; nephew, Kareem Griffen, Baton Rouge, Louisiana; sister-in-law: Cheryl Keyes N'Gom (Abdoulaye); nephews: Idrissa and Issa N'Gom, Los Angeles, California. She also leaves a host of cousins and friends to cherish her memory

.Family members that preceded her in death were her parents, Henry and Elizabeth Griffen; and her brother, Henry A. Griffen.

A Funeral Celebration will take place at Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church on Friday June 4, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. with visitation from 11:00 a.m. to noon.
