Harry Lewandowski June 23, 1924 - Aug. 25, 2015 SOUTH BEND - Harry Lewandowski, 91, of Clermont, FL (originally from South Bend, IN), passed away peacefully on Aug. 25, 2015, in the Mike Conley Hospice House. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Hattie Lewan-dowski; and sisters, Helen Langfeldt of South Bend and Henrietta Ervin of San Leandro, CA.

Harry is survived by his wife, Alice (Lukaszewski) of 67 years; sister, Clara (Edwin) Fisch of Castro Valley, CA; daughter, Rebecca Hartman of Clermont, FL; sons, Robert (Donna) of Davenport, FL, and Duane (Anne) of South Bend; grandson, Bradley Hartman of Sebring, FL; great-grandson, Alex Holston of South Bend; step-grandchildren, Elizabeth (Jeremy) Unruh of South Bend, Eric (Meghan) Robinson of Chestnut Hill, MA, and Christina (Arron) Schwinn of Los Angeles, CA; and many loving nieces and newphews.

After graduating from Washington High School, Harry enrolled in the US Air Corps "C" Pre-meteorology Program at the University of Iowa and became a weather observer at the weather station in Coffeyville, Kansas. The following year he was assigned to the 10th Weather Squadron in the China-Burma-India theater of operations.

Upon his return to the States, he graduated from Ball State Teachers College. While there, he was selected as the university's Rhodes Scholarship Candidate under the War Service Programs from the State of Indiana.

In 1948, he was employed by the South Bend School Corporation as a teacher and coach at Franklin Elementary, Riley and Washington High Schools, and as LaSalle High School's first athletic director from 1965-1987, when he retired. He was a member of the Washington High School Hall of Fame, a recipient of the Sam Weg-ner Award, a nominee for the Athletic Director of the Year for the District, and was a member of the following organizations: Breezers, South Bend Alumni Association, the Knights of Columbus #553, the Indiana State Retired Teachers Association, St. Joseph County Retired Educators Association & the Ball State University Half-Century Club. Cremation will take place in Clermont, FL, with a memorial service being held in the future. Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the Mike Conley Hospice House in Clermont, FL, or to the donor's choice of charity. Into God's hands we send our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend after a life well lived. Anyone wishing to express condolences may meet in the Harry Lewandowski auxiliary gym at LaSalle Academy on Sunday between 2:00 and 4:00.
