John T. Merriman

John T. Merriman, 40, of 60825 Carl St. was dead on arrival at Memorial Hospital at 11 a.m. Saturday after suffering an apparent heart attack in his yard. He was born Sept. 1, 1928 in Chicago and lived most of his life in South Bend.

Surviving is his widow, the former Mary Lou Steele, whom he married in 1952, Also surviving are five daughters, Martha, Jane, Susan, Mary Ellen and Emily; two sons, David and Stephen, all at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Merriman of South Bend; brother, Thomas of Dallas, Tex.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Broadway United Methodist Church, Rev. Orla Brandord, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. Friends may call from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Monday in the Forest G. Hay and Son Funeral Home.

He was a graduate of Ball State University and a teacher at LaSalle High School.
